For State Representative

Sean McCann was born in 1971 in Detroit, Michigan and lived in Livonia, Michigan until he was ten years old. He then moved with his mother and sister to Ludington, Michigan, where he finished elementary school and graduated from Ludington High School.
While in high school, McCann was involved in athletics (soccer, track, pole vault) and Boy Scout Law Explorers. In the classroom, he developed a passion for social studies – history, government, world affairs, and other countries. After graduating in 1989, he attended Western Michigan University.
At WMU, McCann majored in political science and minored in history. He was elected as a representative to the Western Student Association and later became Speaker of the House. In his senior year, McCann was elected WSA President. McCann worked tirelessly to improve the student experience at WMU and implemented some innovative programs during his administration.
After graduating WMU in 1993, McCann stayed in Kalamazoo and worked for First of America Bank (now PNC-National City) until 1995. Following that he served as Executive Director of the Vine Neighborhood Association for more than six years. From 2002 to 2009, McCann worked for the American Red Cross serving Kalamazoo, Allegan, Cass & St. Joseph counties as its Director of Financial Development.
In 1999, McCann was elected to his first two-year term on the Kalamazoo City Commission. He was re-elected in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007.
McCann is a 20-year resident of Kalamazoo; he lived in the Historic Vine Neighborhood for 15 years and recently moved to the Milwood Neighborhood. He is married to Dr. Priscilla Lambert.
